About this case
Introduction
A giant in the offshore industry, Aker Solutions operates over 35 locations worldwide. The oil, gas, and renewable energy solutions that Aker creates must be ready to handle the harsh and unpredictable conditions of the oceans.
Meeting these standards requires extremely tight tolerances and strict control processes. To ensure accurate and fast production, Aker has eight HGG machines across their locations, with two of them situated in Stord, Norway.

HGG Machines
Going from manual to robotic cutting
Aker Solutions is driven by a sustainable mindset where safe operations for their people and the environment is key. Turning more and more towards robotics and advanced technology to aid and reduce stress on the workforce. HGG’s RPC-1200 Robotic Plasma Beam Cutting machine fits perfectly into this picture.
Stig Tveito, Welding Tech Prefab coordinator at Aker; “Before we were using a bandsaw a lot. It was a lot of manual work, and we needed to start to reduce all the manual work. Therefore, we needed a machine that was able to profile, not just cutting 90 degrees square cut, but make more profiles. We knew about HGG, since we already had a SPC, so we were familiar.”
Reliable, accurate, fast.
The first SPC 2000, installed years ago, had already proven its worth in production. Tommy Holm, fabrication manager at Aker and now working with the new SPC 1200: “We are making pipe spools for oil rigs and boats. We needed a machine that is fast and accurate. This machine is, so it’s a good machine for us.”
Also, the RPC-1200 has proven over it’s years to be the reliable solution that Aker was looking for: Stig Tveito: “I think the first 1,5 year, this machine was running on two shifts. Today, this machine is a part of, let’s say our heart in this production.”
“Today this machine is a part of our heart in the production.”
