High tech designers use a CAD-system, like Aveva Bocad, to design and detail steel structures. Models created in a Aveva Bocad or other CAD-systems, contain a lot of data about different parts of the construction. Traditionally, designers had to re-program all the cutting data manually, before the parts can be cut on a pipe cutting machine.

Aveva Bocad is a powerful CAD system to design steel structures with materials such as tubes. The centreline based design method offers a fast creation method of any structural design.
Detailing in Bocad’s detailing module contains ‘Profiling shapes’. These tools, developed by HGG, represent a type of connection like ‘chamfer’ and ‘saddle’ and have parameters to define the weld preparation of a connection. A profiling shape with the chosen connection and weld preparation type can be applied on a specific intersection. All intersections of the model need to be detailed with profiling shapes to guarantee complete extraction of design data. Lay-out markings for easy fit-up can also be created in Bocad and exported to the machine’s software.
HGG ProCAM is the actual interface between the CAD package and the pipe cutting machine. The program’s Cutting Path Calculation will recognize the material type, shapes to cut and the weld preparations (if detailed) automatically
